A survey of 530 Russian companies revealed how organizations of different sizes evaluate digital tools, which solutions are in demand, and what barriers hinder their implementation. The study was conducted by JSC "R7", the developer of the software "R7-Office". The company's specialists surveyed representatives of various enterprises to obtain an objective picture of the use and implementation of digital tools in Russian business.
The study showed that 70% of organizations primarily pay attention to the cost of digital services, and almost 60% to their functionality. However, for many companies, digitalization remains a challenge due to financial constraints and the complexity of decision-making.
Digitalization as a Success Factor
Small and medium-sized businesses are increasingly aware of the need to implement digital tools to maintain competitiveness. At the same time, approaches to choosing solutions depend on the size of the business and the amount of resources. It is important to note that in addition to the classification by turnover (small - up to 50 million rubles, medium - 50-400 million rubles, large - over 400 million rubles), the study also used an additional approach related to the number of employees: small companies - up to 10 people, medium - 11-50 people, large - over 100 people. This is done for a more detailed analysis of the use of tools and the degree of their complexity.
Choosing Digital Tools Depending on Size
Small companies (up to 50 million rubles in turnover, up to 10 employees) primarily use basic solutions:
● Mail services — 90%
● Messengers — 85%
● Cloud storage — 70%
● Document editors — 70%
More complex systems, like ERP, are practically not used here (only 5%), as their cost and functionality are often excessive for this scale.
Medium-sized companies (50–400 million rubles in turnover, 11–50 employees), in addition to basic solutions, show greater interest in complex technologies, such as:
● CRM systems are implemented in 60%
● Corporate messengers and VCS systems — 70%
Large companies (over 400 million rubles in turnover, more than 100 employees) have the resources and the need for more complex solutions:
● Complex ERP systems are implemented by over 40%
● Project applications — about 50%
This is because large businesses need to automate complex processes and effectively manage large data flows.
What and How Companies Choose
For most small companies (more than 70%), the key criterion for choosing a digital solution remains cost. Medium and large companies in 60% of cases highlight functionality as a determining factor, because they need wider opportunities to solve complex tasks.
It is noteworthy that among all participants, only 15% have implemented ERP systems. This is still mainly large and partially medium-sized companies. In their segment, the share can reach 30%, since complex tools are in demand precisely where complex processes are present.
At the same time, the most popular services for everyone remain mail solutions (95% of companies use them daily), messengers (88% - regularly) and document editors (79% use daily).
Barriers to Digitalization
Not all companies are ready for a complete transition to digital technologies. The main problem for small businesses remains the high cost of implementation: 65% of such companies noted this as the main barrier.
An additional difficulty for 50% of medium-sized companies was the difficulty of choosing suitable solutions. They lack information, recommendations and practical examples. At the same time, 30% of large organizations stated that they are already provided with the necessary software and do not see the need for new systems.
Restrictions on foreign software also affect the market. Approximately 55% of respondents are ready to switch to Russian analogues, provided that their functionality is improved, the cost is reduced, and data migration is simplified. About 20% of large companies are still using foreign solutions, adapting to current restrictions.
Russian Business and Office Technologies: Trends, Budgets and Barriers
Office programs and services have become an integral part of the work of Russian companies. However, approaches to their choice depend on the scale of the business, industry and available resources.
What Tools Do Companies Use
Email remains a basic tool: 90–95% of organizations use it daily. Office applications (text editors, spreadsheets) are used by about 75% of companies. At the same time, restrictions on the use of foreign office packages force 55% of enterprises to consider domestic analogues.
Cloud storage is in demand among 80% of organizations, especially among small and medium-sized businesses. Project applications have been implemented in 30–45% of medium and large companies, mainly in IT and industry. More complex solutions, such as ERP systems, are used by only 15% of all participants, while among the medium and large segment, the share can reach 30%.
Main Criteria for Choosing Office Software:
● Cost — important for 65–70% of companies, especially small ones.
● Functionality — a priority for 60% of medium and large enterprises.
● Ease of use — important for 50% of small businesses.
● Security — critical for 56% of large companies.
The domestic market of office technologies is adapting to new realities, offering businesses tools for automating processes and increasing efficiency. Each company strives to balance functionality, budget and current needs.
