The developer of Russian operating systems "Inferit OS", part of the Softline group of companies, has launched a major update of the OS "MCBCфера" to version 9.7. The workstation edition, "MCBCфера ARM", and the server edition, "MCBCфера Server", have been improved.
According to the developers, the server edition "MCBCфера Server" 9.7 is now more secure and convenient for working in isolated environments. To ensure autonomous operation, the distribution includes: the Harbour container image registry, and the Keycloak identity and access management system. The distribution's package base is synchronized with the Enterprise Linux 9.7 family and includes development tools, compilers, and modules.
The developers at "Inferit OS" have also introduced new modules to the Cockpit control panel that help configure a secure environment. Bootloader management allows you to select the OS kernel used by default and set its command-line parameters. Disk quota management provides control over disk space for multi-user systems, such as terminal servers.
New modules allow you to centrally disable potentially dangerous macros in LibreOffice and virtual consoles, reducing opportunities for attacks. Key components in "MCBCфера" 9.7 have been updated, including the Samba server software. Support for the Kubernetes orchestrator has been added.
The distribution includes the .NET 10.0 platform (runtime/SDK) and the Gitea source code management system. A custom application for writing bootable OS ISO images to USB has also been developed.
One of the key innovations in "MCBCфера ARM" 9.7 for workstations is the function of converting audio and video files from the context menu. It allows not only to convert files to other formats with one click, but also to separate or overlay an audio track on a video.
The "Application Center" has been updated: in addition to new categories for selecting applications, users can see the source of application downloads, as well as access the ThirdParty repository with Russian software.
For working with documents, the Surguch package (developed by "Basalt SPO") has been added, providing support for electronic signatures in PDF in accordance with 63-FZ. For everyday tasks, utilities for creating and recognizing screenshots, Flameshot and Normcap, have been implemented. Also, the "Notes" application with the function of pinning to the desktop is available to users of "MCBCфера ARM" 9.7.
