Avito experts summarized smartphone sales in 2024 and recorded a significant increase in demand for new devices. Compared to 2023, sales of new smartphones increased by 29%, and their share on the platform increased from 19% to 24%, which indicates an increasing interest of users in purchasing new gadgets specifically through marketplaces.

Smartphone Market Leaders in 2024

Despite the emergence of new players, the top five in terms of sales volume remained unchanged:

· Apple continues to dominate the market, accounting for 64% of total sales. The average cost of smartphones in retail was 29,000 rubles, new ones – 63,000 rubles.

· Samsung traditionally took second place with a share of 11%, the average price "second hand" – 16,000 rubles, new – 50,000 rubles.

· Xiaomi retained its third position with 10% of sales, the average price for used devices – 9,000 rubles, new – 23,000 rubles.

· HONOR occupies 3% of the market with an average cost of smartphones of 6,000 rubles in resale and 23,000 rubles for new ones.

· realme closes the top five with a share of 2%, the cost of used devices – 8,000 rubles, new – 16,000 rubles.

Growing Popularity of Chinese Brands

The largest increase in sales in 2024 was demonstrated by Chinese brands. Infinix increased sales by more than 2.5 times, offering smartphones at an average price of 8 000 rubles on the secondary market and 11,000 rubles for new ones. TECNO also showed a two-fold increase, with average prices of 7,000 rubles and 11,000 rubles respectively.

Google smartphones, introduced to the Russian market not so long ago, showed an increase of 25%, with an average price of 25,000 rubles in retail and 50 000 rubles for new models. Apple and realme also entered the top 5 leaders in sales growth with indicators of +8% and +3% respectively.

Regional Features of the Smartphone Market

The average price of smartphones in 2024 varied depending on the region. The most expensive devices were bought in:

· Moscow – 39,000 rubles,

· Simferopol – 38,000 rubles,

· Rostov-on-Don – 37,000 rubles.

The most affordable prices were recorded in Karelia (21,000 rubles), Arkhangelsk (22,000 rubles) and Smolensk (25,000 rubles).

Kaliningrad became the leader in the growth of new smartphone sales, where sales volume doubled compared to 2023. Significant growth was also observed in Magnitogorsk (+69%), Perm (+69%), Krasnoyarsk (+61%) and Ekaterinburg (+53%).

To make it easier for users to switch to new devices, Avito is actively developing a smartphone buyback service. Since its launch in October 2022, the program has already expanded to 100 cities in Russia.
