Samsung Electronics is attempting to diversify its business by entering the smart AR glasses market. To this end, the company has joined forces with Google (Alphabet).
Bloomberg reports that Samsung has become another participant in the global AR race, trying to enter the smart AR glasses market, a future "sweet spot" in the gadget market. The agency refers to the head of the Mobile Experience division at Samsung. Simultaneously, partners Samsung and Google are developing the Android XR OS. The project is codenamed The Project Moohan.
Progress in creating augmented reality glasses is slow. Creating a lightweight device suitable for all-day wear requires too many non-standard engineering solutions and an unusual component base. The price of the device is also a limitation.
Samsung has accumulated considerable experience in creating wearable gadgets, including the recently released Galaxy Ring.
Samsung and Google's competitors are also not idle. Apple is working on it, and a social network plans to release its product, called Artemis, in 2027.
