IT infrastructure provider Selectel announced the release of SelectOS 2.0 — a new version of its server operating system. The updated platform is based on the Debian 13 package base and the Linux 6.12.86 kernel.
Improvements were made aimed at certifying the product with FSTEC of Russia, and support for modern hardware and drivers was expanded, including compatibility with GPUs for AI workloads.
The main advantage of the system, according to the developers, is the preservation of the familiar Debian/Ubuntu environment for administrators, which avoids transition difficulties and reduces operational risks. To enhance security, SelectOS 2.0 implements a managed supply chain with its own repositories and GPG signature, as well as a separate channel for security updates. Desktop components are excluded to minimize the attack surface.
We created this version taking into account the requirements of corporate clients, the regulatory environment, and the tasks of long-term infrastructure development. For companies, this is a reliable Russian alternative to external distributions and a technological foundation that can be relied upon in the coming years.
The operating system, included in the Register of Russian Software, is available in ISO, QCOW2, and container image formats for standardized deployment. It is supported on Selectel cloud and dedicated servers.
