RuBackup, a member of the Astra Group, has introduced a new version of its data backup and recovery system, RuBackup 2.8. The new version simplifies the management of backup lifecycles by introducing a new configuration-based licensing model.
The strategy and global schedule management interface (RBM) has been improved, and enhanced logging of all rule changes has been implemented, providing maximum control and a quick diagnostic tool. The ability to force-start strategies for operational scenarios has been added.
A significant part of the release is dedicated to optimizing data operations. The system supports multi-threaded copying and moving of backups between remote file pools within a single installation, which speeds up data migration and load balancing. A utility for remote configuration of server and client components via SSH has been added. The operational side has also been strengthened: rotation of the directory with system logs by quotas has appeared, logging has been expanded, and the ability to fix network ports for operation in segmented networks has been added.
RuBackup 2.8 expands the functionality of key platforms. A module for backing up Microsoft Active Directory has been introduced. A new element has been added to protect virtual machines on the Basis DynamiX Standard platform, and for Proxmox VM, the ability to create and restore copies without an intermediate storage has been implemented, which saves disk space and speeds up operation. Compatibility with domestic hypervisors (zVirt, "RED Virtualization", etc.) and the OpenStack Dalmatian 2024.2 cloud platform has been improved.
The modules for mail systems have received important improvements: support for working with multiple storage spaces has been added for RuPost, and the consumption of RAM has been optimized when backing up VK WorkMail. Backup of multiple instances of the PostgreSQL DBMS on a single server has been implemented. Working with Linux and Windows file systems has been simplified, including new features for automation and remote replication.
