On October 15–16, Moscow will become a platform for a large-scale discussion of the future of the music industry. The capital will host the International Forum IPQuorum.Music, dedicated to the impact of new technologies — primarily artificial intelligence — on creativity, economics, and legal regulation of the music business.
The forum events will unfold in five locations: Bauman Moscow State Technical University, Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory, the Scientific and Educational Center for Intellectual Property and Digital Economy Digital IP, the spaces of the Russian Musical Union (RMS), and AKI.lab.
The discussions will involve over 110 experts from more than 10 countries, including representatives from Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, Serbia, and China. The total number of visitors is expected to exceed 1500 people.
The organizers have identified four thematic tracks:
- «Creativity» — traditions and innovations in music education, the boundaries between reinterpretation and plagiarism, the impact of audio equipment design on the industry.
- «Influence» — the formation of concert programs, the role of labels in the era of platforms, issues of background music.
- «Money» — remuneration of authors in the era of digital subscriptions, the relationship between producer and performer, digital transformation of collective management.
- «Technology» — the use of developments of Bauman Moscow State Technical University in working with music and sound.
Participants will discuss a number of current issues:
- the ratio of «analog» rights management and digital content distribution;
- legal regulation of the use of works for training neural networks;
- the balance of interests between the AI industry and the music business;
- cultural and economic consequences of displacing copyrighted content with generative content;
- adaptation of the music industry to rapid technological change.
The plenary session «Authors in the Service of AI» will be attended by: Lilia Gumerova, Chairman of the Committee of the Federation Council on Science, Education and Culture; Andrey Krichevsky, Chairman of the Russian Center for the Circulation of Rights to the Results of Creative Activity (RCIS); Igor Drozdov, Deputy Chairman of VEB.RF; Leonid Gokhberg, First Vice-Rector of the Higher School of Economics National Research University; Vladimir Matetsky, composer, producer, radio host; Alexander Gofman, Head of the «Createch» Center of Bauman Moscow State Technical University; Ignaty Pavlov, General Director of the business publication «Vedomosti».
Discussions at IPQuorum have repeatedly become the basis for legislative changes and programs for the development of creative industries. In the context of rapid digitalization, the music industry needs a clear understanding of prospects and the development of joint solutions.
Representatives of the professional community note the transformational potential of modern technologies for the music industry.
Andrey Krichevsky (RCIS) emphasizes the historical role of music as a «model» industry for intellectual property and the relevance of legal regulation in the era of neural networks.
Alexander Klevitsky (Russian Musical Union) focuses on the need for constructive interaction between creative associations and AI developers — according to him, the further evolution of culture depends on this.
