Fast installation, SDN support, update via web interface, easy migration from VMware.
As the developers explained, the "Alt Virtualization" OS is now available in several editions, based on the principle of "one virtualization platform - one edition". The first release is the "Alt Virtualization" 11.0 operating system edition, based on the Proxmox Virtual Environment (PVE) version 8.4 platform. The edition for cloud virtualization is under development.
The new installer provides fast installation of "Alt Virtualization". Now the disk preparation is carried out according to PVE requirements. During installation, you can select one of two file systems - ext4 and Btrfs, as well as Btrfs RAID disk arrays (0, 1, 10), which ensure reliable data storage. Automatic creation of volume groups (VG) and logical volumes (LVM-thin) is available.
The modified network configuration section provides easy integration with network infrastructures. At this stage, you can select support for VLAN tags, specify the parameters of the DNS server and search domain.
Support for software-defined networks (SDN) has appeared. Administrators have the opportunity to:
- create isolated segments for various applications and services;
- divide the network into zones, virtual networks and subnets (VNets);
- control virtual guest networks.
Administrators can also add and remove repositories, update the distribution directly from the graphical web interface.
An instrument has been added for direct import of virtual machines from VMware ESXi while preserving settings such as network interfaces and disks. "Alt Virtualization" 11.0 is compatible with processors on x86_64 and AArch64 architectures.
