МегаФон внедряет технологию, которая делает LTE устойчивее к помехам

Mobile operator MegaFon has developed a traffic redistribution algorithm in the LTE (4G) network that automatically bypasses interference and maintains stable communication quality. This technology is already being tested in Moscow and has shown significant improvements in network performance.

The algorithm analyzes data on the network status every 15 minutes. If interference or congestion occurs on one of the frequency bands, traffic is automatically redirected to a free band. When the situation normalizes, the data is again evenly distributed across all available frequencies. This ensures uninterrupted communication for subscribers even in the face of temporary network difficulties.

According to Andrey Abramov, Director of Infrastructure Project Implementation at MegaFon in the Moscow region, the implementation of this technology has already reduced the number of subscribers experiencing interference and congestion by 25%. At the same time, the algorithm is still in the testing phase.

Simultaneously with the implementation of this algorithm in the capital, a refarming program is underway, which transfers the frequency bands of previous generations of networks to LTE. Currently, LTE-1800 and LTE-2100 are already operating on more than 2,500 base stations in Moscow. This has made it possible to increase the speed of mobile Internet by 13%, and the volume of traffic by 7.4%.

The Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS) technology, integrated into the LTE-2100 band, allows supporting the operation of both LTE and 3G networks. This is important for devices that still actively use 3G, including ATMs, payment terminals, and navigation systems.

The modernization program covers not only Moscow, but also the regions. In 2023, it covered 52 regions, and in 2024 the geography expanded to 75 subjects of Russia. Refarming gives users the opportunity to use digital services with even higher speed and quality, including streaming video in high resolution, video calls, and file transfer in fractions of a second.

Currently, MegaFon's services are used by 77.3 million customers, and its federal retail network has more than 4,000 stores.
