ТМТ Консалтинг: определен лидер российского рынка виртуализации

The domestic vendor "Basis" has been recognized as the largest player in the Russian VDI and server virtualization market (on premise) in a study by the consulting agency TMT Consulting. The IT developer accounts for 36% of the entire market, which is 20 percentage points higher than the share of the nearest competitor.

Analysts at TMT Consulting have for the first time assessed the structure of several market segments at once by key players — software developers. Thus, the share of "Basis" in the VDI segment amounted to 41%, in server virtualization — 35%.

Experts studied the volume and dynamics of the development of the Russian virtualization market for 2023 and presented forecasts for its changes until 2027. According to the study, in 2023 the volume increased by 16% and exceeded 8 billion rubles. According to analysts' forecasts, in 2024 it will increase by 18% to 9.6 billion rubles. It is expected that the market will maintain high growth rates until 2027: the server virtualization segment will grow by an average of 14% per year, and the VDI segment — by 17%.

Regulatory requirements play an important role in the development of the market. Subjects of critical information infrastructure (CII) are required to complete the transition to Russian infrastructure software by the end of 2024 in accordance with Federal Law No. 187-FZ. Another significant motivation for switching to import-independent solutions, especially for large B2B clients, was to minimize sanctions risks. Analysts believe that the share of users who use domestic solutions in parallel with Western ones will increase from 30% in 2023 to 50% by the end of 2024.

Experts noted the significant attention of vendors to building competencies and strengthening internal teams, both in the field of development and in the field of support. More mature players are actively developing the training direction, providing partners and other market participants with the necessary basic knowledge to work with their products.

There is a growing interest of customers in platform solutions and an ecosystem approach, as well as a request for expanding the functionality of products. Vendors, in turn, are developing technological partnerships, which allows ensuring the compatibility of various products. One of the scenarios for quickly meeting the functional needs of customers was the consolidation of key players through consolidation processes. For example, in the second quarter of 2024, "Basis" announced the purchase of the IT developer "Rustek" — according to analysts, the deal may strengthen the company's position and increase its market share in 2024-2025.

"The study confirms that the market has stabilized and continues to transform. The three largest players account for more than 60% in 2023, of which 36% is occupied by "Basis". We see significant opportunities for business both in organic growth and through M&A transactions," emphasized David Martirosov, CEO of "Basis".
