The company "Bazis" is developing its own protocol for access to virtual workspaces - Basis Connect. The protocol will become part of the Basis Workplace VDI platform version 3.3 and will provide its users with high-quality image transmission and sufficiently fast response even on slow communication channels. The first version of Basis Connect will be available to customers for testing as early as the first quarter of this year.
The data transmission protocol is an important part of virtual desktop infrastructure; it must support peripheral devices, transmit large volumes of information, and prevent loss of audio and video stream quality. The above determines whether an employee will be able to interact comfortably with resource-intensive applications (graphics and video editors, 2D and 3D design tools), use external and network devices, and participate in video conferences.
Along with the growing popularity of VDI, the requirements for products are also increasing, including the quality and speed of data exchange between the client and the server. Connecting third-party protocols creates a number of additional difficulties when implementing a VDI platform: to use proprietary solutions, it is necessary to purchase the corresponding licenses, while open-source protocols require customization to meet customer requirements and are difficult to maintain. The presence of a high-quality in-house protocol that is part of the VDI platform and does not require additional licensing makes it possible to implement the solution faster and with fewer complications.
When developing Basis Connect, the company is guided by the tasks customers need to solve and the requirements they impose on protocols currently available on the market. In the first public version of Basis Connect, transmission of image, sound, and clipboard contents (text, files, folders, images) will be implemented, as well as support for keyboards, mice, printers, scanners, and other peripheral devices, including USB tokens for using certificates within the virtual workspace. As server and client OSs for working with the protocol, it will be possible to use popular Russian OSs: ALT Linux 10, Astra Linux 1.8, "RED OS 8".
As Basis Connect continues to develop, flexible settings of the protocol itself will be implemented — for example, in terms of differentiating user rights — as well as a number of other capabilities. At the same time, "Bazis" will not abandon support for third-party protocols, since this is one of the advantages of the Basis Workplace platform that is in demand among customers.
"Requirements for domestic VDI solutions are constantly growing, and we must respond to market challenges, remain flexible and functional. Therefore, creating our own protocol is an important step in the development of the Basis Workplace solution. We give customers the opportunity to use a high-quality compatible solution without the need to purchase licenses for proprietary protocols or customize open-source protocols. The creation of Basis Connect required significant resources; however, the successful completion of this task allowed us not only to improve our product offering, but also to strengthen the team\'s competencies," noted Dmitry Sorokin, Technical Director of the company "Bazis".
