According to IDECO's expert assessment, about 30-40% of Enterprise companies continue to use foreign software.

How the Russian vendor IDECO sees the trend of Enterprise companies purchasing domestic software. Many of them have already budgeted for this purpose for 2024. Companies are starting to test not only pilot projects, but also well-established NGFW solutions on the market. However, most companies will not be able to completely replace foreign software by 2025.

Today, the only solution for many is to continue using foreign programs without support, while testing Russian counterparts. Thus, in 2023, 2,500 companies tested IDECO NGFW, which is twice as many as the year before.

Import substitution has become a relevant topic not only for system and application software, but also for infrastructure solutions related to hardware and system construction. Replacing the most complex of them is a challenge for IT companies in Russia in the coming years.

"Of course, we are dealing with trust. It is because of this that 28% of potential customers are ready to abandon Russian software. The share of companies that have managed to switch to domestic developments does not exceed 30%, and these are mainly state-owned companies (86%), the share of startups and private businesses in the import substitution statistics remains minimal (24%). This leads to a well-founded conclusion - no more than 60% of companies will be able to fully replace foreign software by 2025, while the transition of the rest will be delayed until 2030," commented Dmitry Khomutov, director of Ideco.

Switching from one leading vendor, for example, from Cisco to Fortinet or from Fortinet to Check Point, turns out to be very difficult. In the Enterprise segment, including the banking industry and large industrial enterprises, there are still a significant number of companies that use foreign software and hardware. Moreover, domestic vendors have not yet caught up with leading international companies in the functionality of their solutions. Because of this, the transition to Russian developments becomes even more difficult. As a result, it is much easier and cheaper for many organizations to continue supporting existing systems.

According to data from Statcounter, which collects statistics on Internet traffic without the use of artificial weighting factors, in June 2023, the share of users of domestic operating systems based on Linux is 2.1%, remaining as low as it is, in contrast to the leading positions of Windows.
