The launch of the platform is one of the first large-scale examples in Russia of several vendors uniting to create a free, open-source solution. According to the creators, the OpenIDE project is a platform that combines and simplifies the use of various development tools, replacing "outdated and less efficient" solutions.

Working in OpenIDE, developers can create Java projects on the free version of the Axiom JDK platform — the only domestic commercially available JDK. The free version of the Amplicode plugin from Haulmont provides basic support for the Spring framework "out of the box", which greatly simplifies the development process. In addition, Astra Group plans to offer convenient integration with the GitFlic development platform in the near future.
Key advantages of OpenIDE include open source code and the absence of risks associated with the use of foreign technologies and the placement of infrastructure outside the country. The platform has no proprietary components, and the servers with distributions and source code, as well as the team involved in its assembly, development, and maintenance, are located in Russia. The functionality of the solution can be supplemented and customized by connecting domestic plugins through an open marketplace.
