ВТБ внедрил отечественное решение для управления метаданными

Previously, VTB used a foreign metadata catalog containing over 22 million records of data storage systems, such as schemas and tables, as well as over 3 million other metadata. Working with this system required studying large volumes of documentation and analyzing program code.

Now, the data has been transferred to a new Open Metadata catalog with a unified interface. As noted by Nikita Rybchenko, Senior Vice President of VTB, the system allows for more efficient change management and working with large volumes of data, which contributes to faster market launch of new products and services.

The Open Metadata-based catalog was selected based on two dozen criteria. Key advantages include:

  • Proprietary architecture: the solution is created with a core for collecting and storing metadata.
  • Flexibility: the platform easily adapts to new infrastructure and integrates with a dictionary of business terms.
  • Navigation: the tool works as a "navigator" for data, displaying the path from loading to transformation, with the ability to drill down to the level of individual fields.

The solution has become a useful tool for system analysts, designers, developers, and data quality specialists. They can quickly find and analyze the necessary data, as well as effectively interact with each other.

As Svetlana Bova, Vice President of VTB, emphasized, the new metadata catalog allows for a deeper understanding of how data is organized and improves the accuracy of its processing. This is an important step for the bank towards optimizing internal processes and improving the quality of services provided.

The implementation of Open Metadata not only simplifies the work of specialists but also strengthens VTB's position as a leader in technological innovations among Russian
