Astra Group and Pragmatic Tools tested the possibility of migrating Microsoft Active Directory corporate infrastructure to the domestic directory service ALD Pro. Tests showed that a domain migration of almost 300,000 accounts can be completed within a single overnight maintenance window.
The testing was conducted on the stand of a large Russian IT integrator. Pragmatic Tools Migrator was used for the transfer, and the components of the target domain ran on a virtual machine with eight CPUs and 16 GB of RAM.
Creating 296,000 accounts took 3 hours and 20 minutes, and 300,000 groups took 1 hour and 33 minutes. Specialists also transferred information about user membership in groups. The processing speed of accounts decreased by about 13% by the end of the test, while the performance of other operations remained stable.
During the first run, 19 accounts and 95 groups could not be created. A second run processed only the missing objects and corrected all errors in a few seconds. As a result, migration completeness reached 100%.
Pragmatic Tools noted that Migrator supports restarting the process without re-transferring already processed data. According to Astra Group's assessment, the test results confirm the possibility of switching to ALD Pro without multi-day downtime. Moreover, using more powerful equipment can further reduce migration time.
