Basis Dynamix Cloud Control 5.5: New Secure Tools for Cloud Infrastructure and Data Storage Organization

The new version features integration with Basis Virtual Security virtualization protection, introduces a flexible role-based model, and expands capabilities for managing virtual data centers and network functionality.

Basis Dynamix Cloud Control is a cloud solution that allows customers to manage various virtualization platforms — including those located in different data centers — through a single graphical interface. The product enables the creation and administration of virtual data centers (VDCs), deployment of platform services, pre-billing, and access control. Segments based on Basis Dynamix Enterprise, Basis Dynamix Standard, and VMware vSphere are supported.

New Tools for Virtual Data Center Management

In the updated Basis Dynamix Cloud Control, the capabilities for managing the virtual data center lifecycle have been significantly expanded. In particular, to simplify administration, the solution can automatically delete all associated components — servers, networks, ports, routers, and disks — when a data center is removed. To protect against accidental deletion, a special tag mechanism has been implemented, which blocks the operation if present. In release 5.5, the lifecycle is supplemented by the ability to transfer a virtual data center between projects available to the customer's administrator, including between projects of different clients. This new capability simplifies the reorganization of cloud infrastructure and the administration of multi-tenant environments.

The restriction on deploying platform services (PaaS) has also been lifted — now multiple such services can be launched in parallel within a single VDC. This reduces the time required to prepare complex virtual environments that include several services.

Centralized Rights and Access Management

The new Basis Dynamix Cloud Control 5.5 features integration with the Basis Virtual Security solution. Basis Virtual Security is used as a single identity provider, providing Single Sign-On (SSO) technology support and giving administrators the ability to manage user accounts and access rights "from a single window." Centralized management reduces the burden on administrators and frees platform users from having to enter credentials when moving between components of the Basis ecosystem.

Additional convenience is provided by a flexible role-based model, with which an administrator can finely tune user access rights — assemble custom roles from atomic permissions and assign them in the required scope to specific users.

Improved Data Storage Policies and Internal Network Support

The new version of Basis Dynamix Cloud Control implements support for data storage policies used in Basis Dynamix Enterprise. These policies allow distributing the load between storage pools depending on their utilization, which ensures more even use of storage resources and simplifies the operation of large installations with multiple pools.

When creating a server from a custom image in Basis Dynamix Enterprise segments, it is now possible to select a storage profile individually for each disk — both system and additional. This allows distributing the disks of a single server across different types of storage depending on performance and cost requirements. In the Basis Dynamix Enterprise segment, it also became possible to create images of additional disks: when creating a server image, data is saved not only on the system disk but also on connected disks.

For Basis Dynamix Standard resource pools, full network and router management has been implemented — similar to other orchestrator segments. In the network connection management section, filters have been added for eight parameters: device type, server, router, load balancer, Kubernetes cluster, IP address, service connection flag, and tags. This simplifies the administration of complex infrastructure consisting of a large number of physical and virtual components.

The ecosystem approach remains a priority for our development, so in the new release of Basis Dynamix Cloud Control, we focused on expanding compatibility with other solutions in our ecosystem. In addition, significant attention was paid to user rights administration tools and the convenience of virtual data center management, which will be especially useful for large customers with complex infrastructure.
