Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) equipment for protecting information infrastructure has been successfully tested at NOVATEK facilities. The project was implemented in April 2026 with the support of "Innopraktika" company and the ANO "Center for Quantum Technologies Development". NOVATEK became the first private company in the fuel and energy complex to test QKD systems.
QKD fully automates the creation and transmission of secret keys, eliminating human involvement. As explained by the developers, the principles of quantum mechanics make it impossible to intercept a key without detection: any interference changes the quantum state. This provides protection against current and emerging threats.
Vyacheslav Shumkov, Head of the "Innopraktika" Department, emphasized that the quantum technology market is moving from research to practical implementation in corporate security systems. Dmitry Gusev, Deputy General Director of "InfoTeCS", noted that the company is actively developing quantum communications, producing equipment at its own facilities in Moscow and Tomsk. The ViPNet Coordinator HW 5 security gateway and ViPNet Client 5 VPN client are compatible with this technology.
