Kaspersky Lab has released an updated version of Kaspersky Embedded Systems Security (KESS), designed to protect embedded systems such as ATMs, POS terminals, medical scanners and automatic gas stations. The updated solution features advanced behavioral analysis, which is now used not only to detect malware, but also to automatically protect against exploits, eliminate damage and prevent data encryption.
In addition, KESS has its own firewall, which helps organizations control network interactions of applications and reduces the risk of unwanted and potentially dangerous connections. The solution also prevents BadUSB attacks by blocking malicious USB devices that masquerade as keyboards or other data input peripherals.
Among other innovations is a new security level indicator, which assesses the overall level of device security and helps specialists quickly understand whether additional security measures or adjustments are needed. Oleg Gorobets, cybersecurity expert at Kaspersky Lab, said:
The number of embedded systems is constantly growing, and the list of functions they perform is expanding and becoming more complex. At the same time, old, vulnerable devices continue to operate alongside new ones. Attackers are constantly improving their methods. Against the background of these risks, the need for modern, effective solutions that take into account all the features of a diverse fleet of devices, as well as organically fit into the security ecosystem, is increasing. The updated Kaspersky Embedded Systems Security product fully meets these criteria, providing reliable protection in heterogeneous infrastructures where new and legacy devices on Windows and Linux are used simultaneously.
