Red Soft has released a new edition of its operating system. Red OS "Educational Edition" is designed for installation on workstations for both teachers and students.
According to the developers, the OS offers users a modern interface, a library of applications necessary for organizing the educational process, as well as all the functionality of Red OS 8. The package also includes programs for conducting exams.
The new edition is built on the basis of the Red OS 8 repository and is presented as a Live installation disk. The user will be able to run the system from a flash drive, evaluate its capabilities in test mode, and then install it on their device.
The OS has received its own design: wallpapers with images of a classroom, a modern set of icons, additional elements of the environment design. A light theme is installed by default. KDE Plasma 5 is used as the graphical shell.
The installation disk contains a basic set of programs: an office suite, browsers, a file manager, an archiver, video and audio players and editors, tools for working with a scanner and printer, a PDF file editor, as well as other applications necessary for normal operation. The OpenBoard program is pre-installed for working with interactive whiteboards, and full support for touch screens is also provided.
In addition to the built-in software, users will be able to use software and hardware products included in the catalog of compatible solutions Red OS 8. Currently, the catalog includes more than 3,000 solutions from Russian vendors. Wine and Winetricks are also pre-installed, which allows you to run Windows applications without preliminary system configuration.
