Specialists from the Russian company Smart Engines have presented a high-precision artificial intelligence-based module for scanning QR codes and recognizing printed and handwritten Russian passports within the Telegram mini-application.

Technically, the launch of the software code is implemented through WebAssembly technology – it allows adding the ability to scan QR codes and bank cards, as well as printed and handwritten data from the main page of the Russian passport and the page with registration, to any web interface.

The company explained:

Unlike sending images via messenger, the Smart Engines module works completely locally on the user's device. This means that no data leaves the device, and its extraction occurs strictly within the mini-application.

The technology is available in the mobile, desktop, and web versions of Telegram. Previously, the developers made a similar service available in the national Max platform. Smart Engines software products are included in the Unified Register of Russian Software of the Ministry of Digital Development of Russia.
