Pulkovo Airport and Reksoft Implement a Comprehensive Baggage Handling Solution from the Russian Software Registry

In 2023, Pulkovo ranked second in Russia in terms of passenger traffic, serving 20.4 million passengers. The airport has one of the largest and most developed baggage systems in the country. It includes 88 check-in counters, an extensive network for baggage handling with a total length of five kilometers, equipment for five-level baggage screening, and storage facilities.

Pulkovo's baggage system allows baggage to be processed with high speed and accuracy: the throughput is 4,800 pieces of baggage per hour. At the same time, processing one piece from check-in to loading on board takes 15 minutes.

The baggage handling management software package allows efficient management of baggage transportation, sorting, screening, and flight assembly. The complex includes equipment control systems and control panels. The complex allows tracking complete information about the status of baggage at any stage, providing it also to all services and systems through integration modules.

"The pride of the project is ensuring the implementation and testing of the system without stopping the airport's operations. The joint Pulkovo and Reksoft team worked, including at night, when the load is at its minimum parameters. We did everything to ensure that passengers did not notice any inconvenience during the implementation of the Russian development, which is now in the Russian software registry as the first complex of this type," says Andrey Verbnikov, Head of Internal Engineering Systems Operation at Air Gates of the Northern Capital, Pulkovo Airport. "The inclusion of the solution in the register of domestic software confirms its reliability and compliance with strict quality standards, which are a prerequisite for critical infrastructure facilities. This is one of the key parameters for Pulkovo Airport in the context of strengthening technological independence and a step towards increasing the level of domestic innovation in the aviation industry."

The project also included the development, testing, and implementation of a domestic airport messaging bus. With its help, the airport exchanges data on the baggage of each specific passenger with all airlines using the airport's services.

"We highly appreciate the expertise of our customers. Cooperation with Pulkovo has shown in a real example that import substitution tasks can and are being solved without stopping current activities, and the customer's team of experts provides product development with unique experience and knowledge of the subject area. This collaboration has made a significant contribution to the functionality of the baggage handling complex," said Alexander Semenov, Director of the Transport and Logistics Department at Reksoft.
