A joint event by OCS and Systeme Electric, a Russian manufacturing company with expertise in power management. During the presentation, Sergey Smolin, Product Manager for "Three-Phase UPS," presented the following topics: • Overview of the Systeme Electric three-phase UPS product line; • Technical solutions and advantages of each UPS line; • Equipment service support.
Sergey Smolin began the presentation by stating that the company's current product portfolio of three-phase UPS systems consists of three major series.
These are the Uniprom series, the Systeme Gutr industrial sources, and the Excelent series - modular sources for IT applications.
What is their key difference? Uniprom is a complete analogue of the previously known Ease line, which is implemented by Schneider Electric. The Systeme Gutr line is our novelty. These devices are designed for use in industrial operating conditions and have options in demand in this segment, such as increased IP31 protection and a built-in isolating transformer at the output. And the Excelent series is a line that we introduced last year. These are modular uninterruptible power supplies that support hot-swapping of all major elements. Their prerogative is the largest IT players in the market, banks, and other customers who are particularly demanding on equipment maintenance time. Let's start with the junior Uniprom line.
This line consists of Uniprom 3S, 3M, and 3L. Uniprom 3S varies in the power range from 10 to 40 kW. Uniprom 3M - in the power range from 60 to 200 kW. And Uniprom 3L - from 250 to 600 kW. What are their key features?
Uniprom 3L
Let's start with the older model, Uniprom 3L. Efficiency reaches 95.5% in online mode at full load. The power factor is equal to one when operating at temperatures up to 30 degrees.
Sufficient compactness. For example, a solution up to 300 kilowatts occupies 600 millimeters in width, up to 600 kilowatts occupies 1000 millimeters in width. An internal modular architecture is implemented. This means that inside this UPS there are power modules that support internal N+ redundancy, if, for example, we load the UPS to a load of less than 80 or even 90%. However, these modules do not support hot-swapping. Also, these UPSs have a multi-charger that allows you to connect both lead-acid batteries and lithium batteries, which support a higher charging current and can be charged within a couple of hours. And the final function, but nevertheless very important, is the ability to perform load testing of the UPS without directly connecting the load. That is, we can connect it to the network, start this mode, the UPS will completely check the operability of all its elements and show the corresponding conclusion that the UPS is working properly. This function is especially relevant in cases where the UPS is at the facility much earlier than the load with which it is planned to be used, and its operability must be checked in advance to avoid any risks during commissioning.
Uniprom 3M Series
The average power range is from 60 to 200 kilowatts. The key difference of this line is that it can be supplied both in a compact design with the use of external batteries, and in a larger case, but which in turn will support internal modular batteries, which we assemble at our production site in Technopolis. These UPSs have similar characteristics in terms of efficiency, output power factor, and internal modular architecture, as described for Uniprom 3L. And this group also supports the load testing mode without directly connecting the load.
Uniprom 3S Series
Here, due to the fact that the power range is in the range from 10 to 40 kilowatts, we can support two types of cases with external batteries and with internal modular batteries in the entire power range from 10 to 40 kVA. If we talk about Uniprom 3M, which was on the previous slide, then there the possibility of using modular batteries was only at powers of 60 and 80 kVA due to case limitations. Here, due to the lower power, we can implement this in the entire power range. Also, one of the key differences of this UPS is the ability to work not only in the mode of three phases input, three phases output, but also in the mode of three phases input, one phase output. This solution is available in the power range from 10 to 30 kW and allows customers who have a sufficiently powerful single-phase load, but at the same time a three-phase input network, to use such a solution and provide uninterrupted power supply for their consumers.
As for options, here we pre-install network cards and battery temperature compensation sensors in all UPSs. As for the cold start, it is also pre-installed by default for the Uniprom 3M and 3L series, and is ordered separately for the Uniprom 3S series. At the same time, the only accessory that is purchased separately for all series is a parallel operation kit. This is due to the fact that the customer does not always plan to buy two or more UPSs to connect them in parallel. Because of this, this accessory is placed in a separate line and is purchased in multiples of the number of UPSs that the customer plans to connect in parallel.
That is, if he plans to connect 2 UPSs, then, accordingly, it is necessary to purchase 2 sets, if 3 UPSs, then 3 sets, etc.
Excelente Series
We move on to the Excelente series, with an uninterruptible power supply module that supports hot-swapping. Here, the division by lines is similar to the divisions of the Uniprom series. The division is indicated alphabetically, that is, VS - the junior model (small), VL/VM (large/medium) and VX, as the largest UPS. The VS series uses 30-kilowatt modules and supports two versions: with external batteries and with internal modular batteries. The series with external batteries supports the installation of up to 6 modules simultaneously. That is, the output power will be up to 150 kilowatts, plus one module can be in reserve. The VS series with modular batteries supports power up to 60 kilowatts. Inside, you can install up to two 30-kilowatt modules simultaneously.
The VM and VL series are built on the basis of 50-kilowatt modules. The difference between them is that the VM series expands to 300 kilowatts and is implemented in the format of one IT rack. Our VL series expands to 600 kilowatts and is implemented in the format of two IT racks. The VX series is a series using 100-kilowatt modules, it can expand to 1200 kilowatts at the level of one machine.
The VX series supports online double conversion mode, and at the same time achieves efficiency in this mode up to 97%. The output power factor in all UPSs is equal to one in the entire range of operating temperatures, that is, 0 to 40 degrees. In Uniprom, as we said earlier, the limit is 30. The Excelente series supports hot-swapping of power modules, bypass modules, static modules and control modules. At the same time, the control modules are completely duplicated, which helps to achieve additional redundancy, reduce the risks of power interruption and load in the event of failure of one control module. Also, here, by analogy with the Uniprom series, powerful chargers are implemented, allowing you to power both lead-acid batteries and lithium batteries. Well, the form factor of the VX series is 800 mm with a rack width of up to 600 kilowatts and 1600 mm for the 1200 kW model, respectively.
The VM and VL series are 50-kilowatt modules. Efficiency can reach 96% in online mode, the power factor is equal to one in the entire range of operating temperatures. Duplicated control boards and a powerful charger are also implemented. Differences: smaller in size due to the lower power of the power modules. Here, a model with a 6-power module, that is, up to 300 kilowatts, fits into a rack 600 mm wide. A 600 kilowatt model, which houses 12 power modules, fits into a rack 1200 mm wide. Also, in the Excelente VM/VL series, we have the ability to supply various configurations depending on the required number of switches. It is possible to supply a configuration with four switches, respectively, the main input, bypass input, output and a service bypass switch directly. It is possible to supply absolutely without switches, when external shields are used. It is possible to supply with one service bypass switch, as an example of what you can see on the slide.
The Excelente VS series, the junior line among the UPS modules. Here, the 30 kW modules, here the switch kit is pre-installed in this UPS. Efficiency reaches 95.8% in online mode, hot-swapping of power modules, bypass modules and control modules are fully preserved. And it also occupies 600 mm in width. The only key difference here is that the model with external batteries is designed for 150 kilowatts, but at the same time we have the ability to install up to 6 power modules simultaneously. This allows you to achieve additional reserve. That is, the output power can be 150 kilowatts, while in the event of failure of one power module, we do not risk interrupting the power supply to the load, since the backup module will take over the work completely.
Next, let's consider the Excelente VS model, but with built-in modular batteries. This model can provide power up to 60 kilowatts simultaneously (as can be seen in the upper part of the UPS there are two power modules) and has the ability to install up to 6 lines of modular batteries inside the cabinet simultaneously. This allows you to achieve an autonomous operating time of up to 15 minutes in the event of power supply to a 60 kW load, that is, at full UPS power. The key advantage of this line is that we completely produce it in the Russian Federation at our production site in Technopolis. Also, in addition to the UPS itself, we also produce non-modular batteries for the same UPS. That is, all the solutions that will be ordered under the Excellente VS brand will be supplied with the corresponding documentation confirming production in Russia.
Let's briefly go through the main advantages between modular UPSs and monoblock UPSs. One of the key advantages is the service time. When working with a monoblock, we need to transfer it to bypass, involve a highly qualified service specialist in the work. And in the case of replacing power components in this source, the average operating time can take several hours. When working with modular UPSs, if a power module fails, we can apply it within 50 minutes. At the same time, there is no need to transfer the UPS to bypass during these works due to the fact that everything is changed on the hot. Moreover, not only power modules, but also the bypass module and the control module.
All internal components can support additional redundancy and control boards. As for them, there is redundancy according to the 2N system, that is, one can completely replace the other in case of failure.
Also, for the Excellente series, a key advantage is the use of our own software, which we wrote ourselves, using the forces of IT specialists. This software supports the Russian language and supports advanced service and user functions that are in demand among users. We know the functions that users need thanks to feedback.
Our display shows the status of all switches depending on their position "on" or "off". At the same time, when closing, the corresponding closing animation will be shown on the mimic diagram, and when opening, the corresponding switch opening animation will be shown. Also, a separate window shows the status of all power modules, the bypass module. In the case of installing a power module, it is displayed on the image of the UPS, in the case of its removal, a corresponding warning appears in the corresponding place that the module has been removed, and the removal of the power module is displayed on the image of the UPS itself.
Also, our software implements several levels of access depending on the qualification of the specialist. For the user, one menu functionality is implemented, allowing you to view the status of the UPS, view the alarm log, control the UPS, and view the firmware version. For a service specialist, during maintenance, an additional password authorization is implemented, and this access level allows the service specialist to change the UPS configuration if necessary and carry out its service or repair maintenance.
Now about efficiency. Here, the VX series is taken as an example, the efficiency of which reaches 97%. And, if we compare this efficiency with a model with an efficiency of up to 94%, then throughout the entire life cycle, the saved funds will help the end customer to eventually accumulate the necessary capital for a complete upgrade of the uninterruptible power supply system, which gives a significant advantage in terms of savings.
Systeme Gutr
Well, the final part on hardware is Systeme Gutr. This is our new line, which was introduced relatively recently. These solutions are primarily intended for non-standard designs, that is, for industrial customers who require increased moisture protection and galvanic isolation. Systeme Gutr supports solutions with and without built-in transformers.
And all UPSs of the Systeme Gutr line are implemented in a protected IP31 case. What are the key advantages? In addition to the transformer and increased degree of protection, this is seismic resistance, hot-swapping of power modules from the front, parallel operation on a common battery, a built-in complete set of switches, which allows you to reduce the cost of external shields and production in the Russian Federation. We are also currently in the process of obtaining certificates. And we consider this our advantage due to the fact that assembly in the Russian Federation allows not only to load our capacities, but also to significantly reduce the delivery time of this equipment, due to the fact that we store components in our warehouse.
As for options, the situation is similar to Uniprom. The "Cold Start" network card is included in the default package. The only thing that is ordered separately is a set for parallel operation. For all Excelente, one type of reference, for Gutr, respectively, its own independent reference.
Accessories
Systeme Electric is primarily interested in supplying the entire comprehensive solution, which includes not only the UPS itself, but also a significant pool of additional components that allow you to build an uninterruptible power supply system. The scope of supplied accessories includes things such as external bypass shields, cabinets, that is, battery protection kits, battery cabinets or battery racks, battery modules, isolating transformers, lithium batteries. And directly the lead-acid batteries themselves, which are installed in battery cabinets or on racks. You can also see on the slide a significant part of the accessories that we produce, manufacture and design in Russia. At the same time, most of what is designed and manufactured in Russia is produced by our own forces in Technopolis based on our own Systeme Electric solutions.
Let's start with batteries. The solution is divided into lead and lithium. If we talk about lead, then its feature is widespread. The service life of such batteries is 8-10 years, it supports basic monitoring, or advanced monitoring with the help of additional accessories. As for lithium, it has a longer service life, up to 15 years, more compact dimensions and light weight. And in the basic version, it supports advanced monitoring. It also supports fast charging, up to 1 hour, and operation in a wide temperature range. Returning to the lead solution, it should be noted that our company can carry out deliveries in several sizes. We can supply batteries in the form of traditional blocks installed in battery cabinets or on battery racks. We can also supply battery modules that are installed either in the Uniprom 3S, 3M or Excelente 3S series UPS, or installed in external battery cabinets for modular batteries, which we are currently developing. And modular batteries are produced by our own forces in Technopolis, we support them on stock, also in the case of implementing any project, they can be quickly shipped together with the UPS if necessary.
The next option that we implement is racks. Racks in our nomenclature are entered within the framework of standard articles in the amount of 14 pieces. At the same time, in the case of implementing any complex project, we always have the opportunity to develop and agree on some version of a custom rack, providing for placement in specific spaces, for example, in narrow rooms, or some other limited spaces where it is planned to place the battery. There has already been experience in such implementation, and the experience has been successful. Therefore, in the case of a non-standard project, we are ready to compromise and implement custom options.
At the bottom of the battery cabinets, we have a mounting plate installed for installing the battery protection circuit breaker, which allows you to install both the battery and the kit itself in the battery cabinet, which saves space. The battery cabinets themselves are manufactured and supplied in two sizes. This is a width of 800 mm and a width of 1100 mm. At the same time, these cabinets are universal. The shelves inside these cabinets can be easily moved in height to install various batteries, ranging from small capacity to the largest.
Options: "Battery protection circuit breakers and bypasses". We manufacture options for both wall-mounted (ВВВ) and built-in (ВВК) cabinet versions. Their key advantage is the use of our Systeme Pact DC automatic circuit breakers for currents from 100 to 630 amperes. On external bypasses, we use either Dekraft switches or Systeme Pact DC, which allows us to completely close the production of our equipment on our own circuit breakers and on our own switches. This allows us to significantly reduce the time due to the fact that we use a single warehouse and quickly ship both accessories and UPSs to our customers.
Service maintenance
Due to the fact that Systeme Electric was formed as a result of the sale of the Schneider business to local management, a huge amount of information, a huge amount of experience regarding the long-term work of Schneider Electric in the Russian and Belarusian markets, was found within our base. We strive to preserve and increase this information, and we try to continue to provide the entire range of services that Schneider was known for at one time, and which Systeme Electric now supports. We are interested not only in the supply of equipment, but also in providing support at all stages of its life cycle, starting from planning the facility using our equipment and ending with the disposal of this equipment.
To implement this strategy, a huge staff of service specialists has been implemented within our company, consisting of our experts, service engineers, coordinators, trainers who are able to provide 24/7 support. We currently have 250 guaranteed service contracts concluded, which are regularly executed. We maintain more than 4 thousand units of spare parts for UPSs and other equipment in our warehouse.
If we demonstrate this work on a graph, we can see that Systeme Electric with our forces can implement commissioning, assembly, provide warranty service, post-warranty service within the framework of an extended warranty. In the middle of the life cycle, carry out planned replacements of equipment parts that require it. And at the end of the life cycle, modernize the equipment and replace it with a new one.
A striking example of such work is the replacement of Galaxy 3500-7000 series equipment, which was installed in the tenth years, and now their service life is coming to an end. As part of these works, we already had the experience of replacing "turnkey" completely old equipment with Uniprom and Excelente. At the same time, these works are fully performed by our specialists. That is, the task of the customer is simply to hand over the key to the room in which the engineering equipment is installed. Then our specialists completely dismantle the old equipment, install the new equipment and launch it.
At the same time, for the organization of high-quality repairs, we have at our disposal in Technopolis a repair line, which occupies an area of slightly more than half a square kilometer, has 9 repair sections for repairing various equipment components. To test the operability of the equipment, we can include the main load stand with a capacity of up to 500 kilowatts, and from time to time you can use additional power to test more powerful sources.
Also, for the organization of such service maintenance, our repair line has all the necessary tools to both conduct a full analysis of the equipment malfunction, and repair it at the component level, which allows you to be confident in the result and provide a guarantee for the work performed for a year or more.
