The Red OS 8 kernel has been updated to version 6.12.21, and Red OS 7.3 to version 6.1.128. The kernel update includes fixes, improvements, and security patches that address known CVEs. Since the last update in December 2024, over 1500 vulnerabilities have been closed. Additionally, the list of supported devices has been expanded, and the performance of the file system, network subsystem, and virtualization system has been improved.
System and server software, as well as user software, have been updated. For example, Zabbix infrastructure monitoring system version 7.2, Wine version 10 for running Windows applications, OpenSearch version 2.18 for data search and analysis, Chromium 138 browser, Thunderbird mail client 128.11, and LibreOffice 24.8.4 office suite with a corrected spell-checking issue are now available.
In Red OS 8, the design of the KDE and MATE graphical environments has been improved: the themes have been redesigned, and the visual appearance of the login and lock screens has been reworked. The GNOME graphical environment has been updated to version 46. It features improved global search, interaction with the file manager, performance, and security.
The GRUB2 boot screen design has been updated in the system, new wallpapers and icon sets have been added, and a refined Papirus icon set is selected by default.
